EASYFIX Veal Slat Rubber chosen by Hans Luijerinks

EASYFIX Veal Slat Rubber was installed by Hans and Marloes Luijerink over 6 years ago.  The Luijerinks live in Overdinkel, Holland and run a long-established rosé veal calf company with 3,200 calves. In 2010, they started experimenting by installing different types of flooring. The Luijerinks have tried and tested many different companies before finding the perfect welfare-friendly veal stable floor solution.

The EASYFIX floor stood out to them, and they decided to continue installing it in more of their barns. They now have it in full use for approximately 6 years in multiple barns. They believe it has delivered some pretty good results. According to the Luijerink’s the most important factor is that it is socially responsible, and they now offer a better level of animal protection.

The calves display natural behaviour on the rubber floors, they get mischievous. The veal calves also have fewer leg problems and it has almost eliminated any carpal joint issues they had prior to installing the EASYFIX slat rubber. Growth rates have increased, by about 3/4 kg per slaughtered calf. This makes a meaningful difference and they believe the calves really benefit from the flooring. Being socially responsible is important, but they also need to ensure that there is a payback. The rubber flooring is an expensive investment, but they believe it definitely delivers returns and they hope to lay more EASYFIX slat rubber floors in the future.
