Pat McParland is a progressive beef finisher in Co Armagh

Richard Halloran from farming Life recently visited Armagh Beef Finisher Pat McParland.

There is growing awareness among beef farmers that improved levels of animal comfort, will deliver enhanced levels of performance for stock of all types and ages. Armagh beef finisher Pat McParland agrees: “I have had EASYFIX slat rubber in a number of slatted finishing pens for some time.” he said. “From the very outset I noticed that the cattle were more content. Growth rates also improved.”

Investing in animal comfort

Improved comfort and sure footedness will help deliver enhanced growth rates. Pat added “With the availability of the Tier 1 grant, I decided to have the rubber put down on a number of the other slatted pens on the farm. The total floor area this time around was in the region of 600 square metres”.

EASYFIX fitted the slat rubber

Pat told me “The EASYFIX installation team had the entire job fitted in a very short space of time, just before Easter. There was no disruption caused to the running of the farm, whatsoever. The EASYFIX team was great to work with. I was extremely happy with the service they provided.”

Balmoral Show

EASYFIX will have a major presence at this year’s Balmoral Show. Their new outdoor exhibition stand is located between the sheep ring and the Lely robotic demonstration area. “We will be featuring our entire product range at Balmoral,” confirmed Ronan Boyle. “This includes our new EASYFIX slat rubber systems for Dairy cattle, our latest beef cattle rubber flooring and our flexible cow cubicle systems. “Many of our products are eligible for support under the Farm Business Improvement Scheme. We will be able to provide full details to visitors when they visit our stand.”

Ronan concluded: “It has long been recognised that enhancing animal comfort will consistently improve livestock performance, in terms of higher milk yields and better growth rates. It really is a win:win scenario for both livestock and the farmers involved. “With this in mind producers wishing to see how the theory behind improved animal comfort can be put into practice in the cost cost effective way possible, should take the opportunity of calling to the EasyFix stand at Balmoral Show 2017.”
